The Deputy: A Novel about Murder and Love in a Small Town
By George Baucum
Crime and Love in 1950s Rural America
Sheriff Deputy Howard Roberts is a happy man. He has a beautiful wife and daughter and he’s stumbled onto a clue that might solve the murder of a second grade teacher in Beaver Valley.
But his life is turned upside down when he discovers the killer may be one of the most popular men in the community and his wife learns he is the father of an illegitimate boy.
Will the killer be arrested? And will his wife, who has left to be with her uncle, accept Howard and his boy?
"The Deputy is a very well written and interesting novel about life in small town America. It is one of the best novels I have read. Once I began to read it, I couldn't put it down." —Don Pilcher, Edmond, OK
