Critics Praise Spokane County Law Enforcement: From Territory to Statehood and Beyond, by Rae Anna Victor
"Every law enforcement administrator and employee in Spokane County will want a copy of this book. In it they will find scores of incredible stories of infamous criminals and heroic law enforcement officers dating back to the 19th century, as well as an amazing amount of detail about ordinary changes affecting every law enforcement agency in the county over the past century. This book contains thousands of pictures and stories about police officers, correctional officers and law enforcement staff, making it truly the most definitive work on the history of law enforcement in Spokane County. Rae Anna has done a truly remarkable job of documenting the history of law enforcement in Spokane County." —Dr. Dave Demers, publisher, Marquette Books LLC
"As a retired deputy I had the great privilege of living some of the history of law enforcement in Spokane County. I also was privileged to assist Rae Anna in writing the history and am proud to know that a writer has done an excellent job of chronicling the heritage of our law enforcement officers. Rae Anna is an experienced law enforcement officer and knows how to separate real life from the TV cop shows so the reader can get a glimpse of what it means to patrol the streets and back roads of the county. Cops love to talk about their experiences and Rae Anna has put those stories into print for the reader's enjoyment." —Captain John H. McGregor, Spokane County Deputy [retired]
"Rae Anna Victor's extensive research paid off with a fascinating look at the history of law enforcement in Washington State. Anyone associated with, or interested in law enforcement and any historian will enjoy a good read." —Lynn Sims Bain, retired law enforcement officer, retired high school teacher
"This book has changed my perspective of law enforcement. Researching the early sheriffs of Spokane County and working with Rae Anna has truly been a rewarding experience for me. I have learned a great deal about how Spokane became governed by law. I now know the true history of our great state and how our early pioneers changed the course of Spokane's history by their heroic deeds. The sacrifices they made will be forever forefront in my mind." —Karen Curran, genealogical researcher
Prefatory Comment from the Author:
Spokane County Law Enforcement has a history of its own. Over five years of research have gone into this book. The research has taken us all over the United States and abroad to collect the stories and pictures that comprise the lives of the men and women who make up the departments that are in the boundaries of the county.
One of the most special times in this long journey to completion of this work was the time spent in Thailand editing the book in the Authors’ Room. The Authors’ Room is located in the Oriental Bangkok. Among the unique features are six signature suites in the Authors’ Wing. The original hotel was built in 1876 and sits on the bank of the Chao Phraya, the River of Kings. The opulent luxury of The Oriental Bangkok has been host to some of the most famous authors in the world Somerset Maugham, Noel Coward, Joseph Conrad, James Michener, and Harriet Beecher Stowe to name a few. To be able to sit in the chairs they sat in and spend time in a literary pursuit was an author’s dream come true.
I would like to thank those who believed in this project and have given their patient support to its completion and success.
